Dhaka to assist Kuala Lumpur in probe over Bangladeshis‍‍` alleged militancy links

The Government of Bangladesh has pledged to assist Malaysian authorities in investigating allegations of militancy involvement against 36 Bangladeshi nationals recently detained in Malaysia.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has already contacted relevant Malaysian authorities and formally requested detailed information about the identities of the individuals and the specific charges brought against them.

The foreign ministry confirmed that formal charges have been filed in Malaysian courts against five of the detained individuals. The remaining cases are either under investigation or in the process of repatriation.

Bangladesh is closely monitoring the developments, and the High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is maintaining regular communication with Malaysian officials, the statement added.

The ministry also affirmed that necessary consular support will be provided to the detained Bangladeshis if required.

Reiterating its firm stance against terrorism and violent extremism, the Government of Bangladesh emphasized that it is ready to fully cooperate with Malaysian authorities in this matter.
